This is where we ride our horses, as a club, in the Florence Days Parade. It is a great opportunity to expose your horse to a new environment and experience. We do a warm up ride before the parade. The ride ends at the staging area where the parade starts. This gives your horse the chance to slowly acclimate to the parade atmosphere. Please see our website for more detail about parade attire, meeting place, etc. Also, if you’re not interested in riding your horse but you’d like to participate, we do have a banner that can be carried by foot—we would need at least 2 people to volunteer to carry it, it’s too large for 1 person.
Please bring your own snacks, water, and appropriate jackets or rain gear if needed.
MEET at MUD- in the grass field, north end of MUD property at the corner of J. Pershing Drive and Dick Collins Blvd.
At the MUD staging area we will have club saddle blanket covers for all riders to use. We will use traditional parade attire. Riders wear: blue jeans, long sleeved white shirt, western hat or helmet, and riding boots. Horses: must be well groomed, have club saddle blanket covers, club leg wraps (will put on leg wraps at park). You may dress up your horse with mane/tail ribbons in club colors–royal blue and white. You can use glitter, hoof polish, etc.
RIDE OUT from MUD-. We will ride south along J. Pershing Dr. and will use the trail next to the river to avoid as much traffic as possible. This is a good ride to get your horse warmed up and as we get closer to the park your horse will have the chance to slowly get acclimated to the parade atmosphere.
ARRIVE- at Miller Park staging area. This is where we will get set up with flags, club chaps (for those carrying a flag), and we will help get the club leg wraps on your horse.
**We will need 3 volunteers to carry a flag while riding in the parade — American, OSY, and State of NE.
Hope to see you all there!
